Is there a way to restore previous in-app purchases?

Simply click any of the locked category buttons again, as if you were re-purchasing the upgrade. Instead of a confirmation to purchase the upgrade, your previous purchase should be restored.

I already paid for this app. Do I have to pay again to download it?

As long as you’re using the same iTunes account, you shouldn’t have to pay again. In-app purchases for this app are non-consumable, meaning they should not go away. To restore previous in-app purchases, please see the question above.

I’ve completed all of the puzzles. I want to play them again. Is there a way to erase the puzzles?

We never created an in-app way of doing this. We’ve learned though. Our latest title, Spy Words, has a button that you can press within the game screen.

For this app, please delete the app as you normally would then reinstall it. If you sync the deletion with your iTunes account, you may have to re-download the application again. The puzzles should now be deleted from the application.

The first two categories were unlocked. How do I gain access to the next few categories?

The first category is available right off the bat. The second category can be accessed by reviewing the app. The following categories are accessed through an in-app purchase. This allows us to monetize the app and keep on building even better applications!

Why does this game not accept actual words?

In order to make this game fun for casual gamers, we specifically filtered out words that might have been found as offensive. This was largely subjective on our part. In some cases too, some words were taken off of lists for some puzzles and not others.

For players like yourself, with an extensive knowledge of vocabulary and words, we totally understand that this can be frustrating. In order to get at something a little bit more hardcore, we created Anagram Academy. Anagram Academy features a “Master” mode which contains all of the words listed in the TWL. It’s intense and will really get you thinking if that’s something that you’re looking for.

How do I play Anagram Twist?

Good question. Simply move the tiles around in the lighter colored bar to create words with the letters. Press the guess button to confirm your word. Correct words will show up in the white spaces above, while wrong or misspelled words will make the tiles shake back and forth.

A more detailed explanation of the game interface can be found on the main screen, or when starting the application for the first time. On the main screen, simply click the question mark button. Click the tutorial image to return to the main screen after you’re finished.

Spy Words features numerous categories and hundreds of puzzles to satisfy all kinds of users. For those who might want a little hint, or two, or three; there is a hint button. Pressing this hint button will allow players, possibly like yourself, to reveal a set of vowels within in the puzzle.

In the above cryptogram, for instance, you might get all of the “o’s” or the single “u” by clicking the button. The fewer hints you use, the more you get as a bonus for solving the puzzle.

Players get two minutes and a puzzle. After figuring out the six letter word, they can move onto a new puzzle. Do the scholars stay on the current puzzle because they can create a lot of words, or do they move onto the next puzzle? After two minutes, players can view solutions, share their score on Facebook, and compete against friends in Game Center.

There are four levels–elementary, high school, college, and master. Each level gets progressively harder but is worth more points. These levels also correspond nicely to words that are required for related education levels (ex. elementary contains six letter words that the average elementary school student should know).

Can’t figure out all of the elementary words? It’s okay, we won’t judge (our word bank utilizes the official SOWPODS list… which has a lot of words). We will say, though, that Master is indeed pretty difficult.

Get the word right and you’ll get a star to move onto the next puzzle. Finish unscrambling all of the letters and you’ll earn an even bigger star (yippee!). We’ve been working really hard for the past few weeks on a few really cool things–one of which is a pretty extensive update to Button Smasher. This update includes new sounds, graphics, and power-ups aimed at making the game faster, more exciting and strategic than ever before.

If you’ve played the game before, you may have noticed that we’ve removed the outline of the clock in favor of a circular power-up bar. You also may have noticed that chain has been replaced with icons. These icons represent the various power-ups that you can receive.

Each power-up adds a new dimension to the game and are designed to provide benefits to different types of gamers. Power-ups include invincibility (shield), automatic points (arrow), a reduction in the number of shapes generated (shapes), multiplier (lightning bolt), and the ability to add time (clock).

• The shield prevents you from being affected by errors during the time it’s activated.
• The arrow increases your score by 10,000 points over the course of 10 seconds.
• The shape power-up makes it so you only have to press one of two shapes while it’s in use.
• The lightning bolt increases your bonus by two times.
• Last but not least, the clock adds one second to your time for every successful button smash.

It takes seven smashes to achieve the next level of power-up, which can be activated at any time using the button on the right.

There are more updates in the pipeline to look forward to, including Game Center. In the meantime, have fun with this update and good luck in becoming an Ultimate Button Smasher.

It’s been a long way coming, but we finally submitted our first application yesterday evening. We created a few more applications before this, but neither of them stood out enough for us to fully pursue. That said, we rather like this one (NOTE: Tony will probably detail our development process and include some tips/tricks later on down the line. Look forward to this.) Button Smash is a simple game meant to bring to life the drawings of a fun-loving youngster–that youthful spirit inside all of us. We’ve all had times where we’ve drawn random shapes. Perhaps we’ve even imagined them come to life. This application brings those drawings to life in the form of a game where you have to push the shapes (the buttons) at the bottom of the screen that correspond to the highlighted shapes above. In this game, you compete against yourself and with others to get the highest score and longest chain.
